Incorporating Dates Into Your Diet May Just Be The Best Decision

Native to the Middle East, a date is a stone fruit: it has a single seed surrounded by an outer fleshy fruit. In Pakistan we are no stranger to this fruit – dates are grown in all four provinces of Pakistan and sold all year round. They are especially popular during the month of Ramadan. However, the fruit should be a staple in our diet either way as it has many benefits. Keep reading to find out what some of them are:

Healthy Pregnancy

Pregnant women need around 300 calories more than their average non-pregnant peers. As dates are high in calories and are nutrient dense, they can be a great option to include in your diet if you are expecting. Some research also suggests that dates can help strengthen the muscles in the uterus during the final stages of the pregnancy.

May Prevent Hair Loss

Dates are rich in iron, and can thus aid in hair growth by promoting the circulation of the blood to the scalp. Who doesn’t want long hair?

Stronger Immune System

It is essential to eat a well-balanced and nutritious diet to build a strong immune system, and if the pandemic has taught us anything, it should be to nourish our body with immunity building foods. That’s where dates come in – they are packed with essential vitamins, including vitamin C!

Incorporating dates into your diet can provide anti-aging benefits; the Vitamin C and D present in them can help improve the skin’s elasticity and the phytohormones present have wrinkle fighting properties.

High in Fibre

A 3.5 ounce serving of dates packs almost 7 grams of fibre. Fibre is essential for a healthy digestive system, and is useful for controlling blood sugar levels as it helps prevents them from spiking too high after eating. Dates are therefore a low glycemic food and by adding them to your diet, you can reap the many benefits!

Promote Bone Health

Dates are rich in micronutrients such as selenium, copper, manganese, and magnesium – all of which are essential for bone health. Eating dates will have you looking and feeling young – what more could you want?
