We’ve all been there. Spent a long night (maybe even days) walking in the chicest stilettos only to have your feet blistered, swollen and in way too much pain. If you find yourself in similar situations often, take a day off and try these helpful remedies – you will be strutting your stuff again in no time!
Soak It Up
Fill your tub with a few inches of warm water, then sprinkle some salt and soak your feet for about 20 minutes. The magnesium in the salt will help reduce inflammation and cramping, and the heat will soothe your muscles. You can also add a few drops of essential oils for an extra medicinal boost (peppermint, marjoram and basil all contain pain-relieving properties).
Stretch It Out
Yoga for your feet is a thing – try it! And if you’re not feeling a full routine, place one foot in front of the other with both feet flat on the floor. Bend your front knee and keep your back knee straight. Hold it for 90 seconds then switch legs. Repeat this throughout the day to continue reliving pressure.
Get A Pedicure
Get your feet back into shape with a relaxing pedicure. This means getting rid of calluses, some gentle exfoliation and a snazzy new paint job!
Even after a few hours of wearing high heels and cramped shoes, you may experience some dry patches. Therefore, it is important to keep the skin on your foot supple, as rough areas on pressure points can be painful. Look for a moisturiser dedicated to the feet, as the skin there is thicker compared to skin elsewhere.
Treat Any Blisters
Any open wounds need immediate attention – so whip out the disinfectant and bandages stat. Also, we know it’s tempting but resist popping any blisters that haven’t run their natural course. That strange bubble is actually your body’s way of producing a natural bandage to keep your skin clean from the inside.
Finally, kick off your heels and keep them off! Take a day or two to go au natural, because it is best to keep bruised swollen, and blistered feet untouched.
