5 Trends You’ll Be Wearing This Winter, According To FPW 2018

FPW Winter Festive 2018 kicked off this weekend with much anticipation. This season we went on a journey around the subcontinent as designers captured the spirit of the future. Whether it was Huma Adnan taking us to Dehradun, The PinkTree Company to the home of the Gulabi Gang in Uttar Pradesh, or Wardha Saleem’s ‘Chandbala’ collection to the Mughal era. The over-arching theme, no matter whose collection you were drawn to, was one of power. Rather than appearing on the runway as damsels in distress, models were in charge, striding with purpose. The collections showcased a woman of strength, one who is equally comfortable in a bridal outfit as she is in glamorous party wear. To help you find your sartorial strength we journey through fashion week to find the trends worth embracing in the coming season. Step back in time and prepare to move forward.

Playful Peplums

Peplums have been around for quite some time now and it seems they are here to stay (maybe because peplums do justice to both skinny and curvy figures). Designers like Aamna Aqeel, Sara Rohale Asghar, Deepak Perwani and Maheen Karim showcased various peplum pieces (from peplum cholis to asymmetrical tops) – proving that this trend can be worn anywhere from a wedding to a night out.

Go Long

Longer garments seem to be making a comeback! If you’re a fan of this trend – you’re in luck because it was all over the FPW runway this season. From voluminous peshwas to floor-length gowns or even an androgynous kamiz, there are endless ways to weave this trend into your wardrobes this year.

Chasing Rainbows

If there is one thing that was clear from the runway this season, it’s that while pastels shades will always remain an essential colour palette in Eastern wedding wear, this year colours are the way to go. While the PinkTree Company used pink as a base colour in their all designs, designers like Wardha Saleem, Deepak Perwani, Huma Adnan, Maheen Karim, Maheen Khan, Tena Durrani and Rano’s Heirloom all stood as advocates of mixing colours tones.

The Art Of Power

2018 started off on a powerful note with movements such as #MeToo dominating our timelines and newsfeeds. And we saw that power reflected in almost every designer’s collection at FPW 2018. Be it the sherwani blazers in Deepak and Fahad’s womenswear collection, the power suit in Zainab Chottani’s showcase, the dramatic collars in Maheen Khan’s collection or the commanding attitude in HSY’s presentation – power dressing, is the way forward.

Sparkle And Shine

This season calls for some extra glitz and glamour. There can’t be a bridal showcase without embroidery (we know) but this season the western collections featured lots of high-shine garments too. Maheen Karim, Maheen Khan and HSY all gave us a twinkly auditory experience and proved that simple sequins just don’t cut it anymore.

Beauty Trend To Watch Out For: Glittering Lids

Smoky eyes and sleek hair are not going anywhere but these beauty trends got a minor update with glittery shadows. This winter, it’s time to say goodbye to no-makeup makeup (at least, for now), and opt for more dramatic beauty looks. And don’t be afraid to light the night with your eyes – as HSY proved, glitter makes everything better.
