9 Tricks To Get A Salon Like Blowout At Home

The satisfaction of walking out of a salon with a fresh, stunning blowout is unmatched. The bouncy hair makes us feel like we’ve just stepped out of a shampoo commercial. But coming back to reality — professional blowouts aren’t always an option. For the days when you’re broke or too tired to book an appointment, drive to the salon and then sit for hours waiting for you turn, giving yourself a blowout in the comfort of your home sounds like a better idea. Before you start questioning your ability of nailing a perfect blowout, let us tell you that you can totally do it! Yes, it’s not a piece of cake, but with the right tips and tricks it’s not impossible either. If you’re convinced to give it a shot at home, here are some hacks that will make the job easier and results better for you.

Pick the Dryer Wisely

It all starts with the right tools and products. Your hair dryer doesn’t have to be expensive, but one you can comfortably hold and work with. Keep in mind that the dryer should come with a nozzle attachment and cool setting —two very important factors for a perfect blowout.

Find The Right Size Of Round Brush

A round brush is ideal for blowouts and in this case, size matters. To get the blowout of your dreams you’ll need to put in some more effort and buy the right sized brush according to your hair. If you’ve got longer hair, go for a bigger brush and for short and mid-length hair, stick to a medium sized brush.

Prep Your Hair Properly

Unless your hair has been washed and prepped properly, you cannot come close to a professionally done blowout. Start by washing your hair with a sulphate-free shampoo to prevent frizz. Then, to make your hair soft and easy to style, apply a deep conditioning mask for at least 10 minutes. Follow it by applying a volumizing mousse to your roots. This will lift hair from the roots, giving you the salon like look. Lastly, don’t forget to mist on a heat-protecting spray.

Avoid Drying Hair With Towel

This often-ignored aspect can alone break your look. Drying your hair the right way is as important as washing it. A towel may be your go-to option for drying hair but when aiming a blowout, ditch it. Rubbing your hair with a towel can cause frizz and wrapping it on top of your head can flatten the roots. An easy alternative is using an old cotton t-shirt to mop of any excess water and let the hair air-dry.

Pull The Hair Tightly

The biggest mistake one makes when blow drying hair at home is not pulling the hair hard enough. Remember, tension is the key to achieve a flawless blowout. Wrap your hair tightly around a brush and pull it with full force. The crown, sideburn and bangs (if you’ve got them) require the most tension.

Work In Small Sections

To avoid chaos and keep your hair from tangling, work in small, manageable sections. Separate your hair into 2-4 inch sections. This may take some time, but it’s all worth the great results.

Start With The Roots

When blow drying, make sure to always begin at the roots. Start with your round brush at the roots, slowly rolling it down to the ends and then take it back up to the roots, while blasting them with warm air.

Use A Texturiser Spray For Volume

For extra oomph use the good ol’ flipping hair technique. Turn your head over and run your fingers or brush through your hair. Then apply a texturiser spray to get a voluminous finish.

Lock The Look With Cool Air

Once you’re done with a section, cool it down before moving to the next one. Turn the hair dryer heat to cold and blast the roots with cool air for a maximum of two seconds. This will maintain the volume in the roots and lock the style.
