Everyone swears going to the gym is the secret to happiness. It raises your heart beat, makes your skin glow, and gets you into shape. Next to now downside, basically. The only problem is much some people hate it! We all know those people that have learned to love their monotonous pilates classes, or surpassed their abysmal stamina to become triathlon regulars. For the rest of us, the struggle is real. Our muscles get more sore than other peoples, and we run out of motivation quickly during hard core work outs. Other times, we just don’t know what to really do once we’re at the gym, and the cost of a personal trainer isn’t one our bank accounts would condone at the moment. If fall into the latter, then we really feel you. Don’t worry! It doesn’t mean you’re destined for a life of belly roles over abs. The gym is not the only option. If you’re not a gym person, then you can do yourself a favour by giving these five activities a try instead. Dream bod, here we come!
1. Pick Up A Sport
Ever wondered how athletes are so fit? It’s not because they’re gym rats. Whether you prefer cricket, football, tennis or basketball, every sport helps you burn calories. Instead of mindlessly pumping iron in the gym, you’re actually having fun with this though. Sports are community activities and get you socialising, plus they work out multiple muscle groups at the same time. Team up with your buddies and plan a match right now!
2. Start Yoga
If you’re too lazy to go to the gym, then yoga could be your next go to option. You can do it anywhere, anytime! All you need is a mat, some scented candles, and lots of concentration. Along with calming your mind, yoga also strengthens your muscles and tones your body. You can practice along with work out videos at home, or do them in the park for an outdoor atmosphere.
3. Run
Running is the cheapest way to get in shape and stay fit. Go to the park every day at dawn or sunset when the weather is cooler, put on your running shoes, plug in some headphones and run till your hearts content. There are loads of apps that can help you track your speed as well! This form of exercise engages your core, your legs, and your glutes all it once.
4. Get On A Cycle
Relive your childhood days and get back to cycling. The leisurely activity is actually a great way to roam around the city and take in some sights, while also losing calories and toning up your leg and core. It’s the kind of activity that’s the most fun to do when you have a friend too — luckily, there are plenty of cycling groups in Karachi to join.
5. Ditch The Elevators
This one doesn’t exactly count as an all out form of exercise — but it’s a start, and that’s what matters! Make tiny steps to building up your stamina and appetite for fitness.Wherever you go, use stairs instead of elevators or escalators. These can help you burn additional calories and keep you more active in general.
