How To Fix These 5 Common Mascara Mistakes

Mascara is a permanent resident in every girl’s makeup bag. A quick application makes all the difference, taking eyes from tired to captivating and bold. Still, the little product has its major ‘do’s and don’ts’ which most girls aren’t aware of. Do you know how to correctly apply and store this beauty wand? Read on and see if you’re making these five common mascara mistakes, and learn to fix them with our tips below!

1. Be Gentle With Your Mascara Wand

Pumping your mascara wand aggressively before applying it doesn’t do anything besides letting air enter into the product, making it dry and flaky, which then makes your lashes clumpy. It also reduces the shelf life of the product! This is the secret reason your expensive mascara tends to go bad so quickly.

2. Never Sleep With Your Mascara On

No matter what, never ever sleep with your mascara on! Sleeping with any kind of cosmetic product still on your face is harmful for your skin, but mascara can specifically damage your eyes, and cause your lashes to become brittle and break off while you sleep — the last thing anyone wants!

3. Use A Waterproof Formula

Who doesn’t want perfectly curled lashes? But in order to achieve them, you need to make sure your mascara is waterproof. Regular mascaras may not be able to hold the curl for very long, but a waterproof formula keeps them intact.

4. Don’t Apply Too Many Coats

A popular belief is that multiple coats will give us voluminous lashes like the girls in ads, and make the application itself last longer — but, no! Applying too many coats will only make your lashes clumpy and dry, and more prone to breaking off. To get those va va voom lashes, two or three coats are more than enough.

5. Throw It Out After Three Months

Girls take note! The shelf life of tube mascaras is only three months. Old mascara tubes are home to germs that can cause infections and irritation .. not a pretty sight. We should always be careful when using things that come in such close contact with our skin and eyes. Don’t take the risk trying to save money — all good things come to an end. Buy a new tube once your current one expires, and use it without fear.
