Pores are located where our hair follicle opens, and the bodies natural oil (sebum) is released onto the surface to keep our skin moisturised. While pores keep our skin healthy, their size and appearance – which depends on your genetics and hormones – can be frustrating. Large pores are a huge (no pun intended) issue, and while we can’t ever completely get rid of them, it’s entirely possible to minimise them. Here’s how!
1. Make Sunscreen Your Friend
No skincare routine is complete without sunscreen. When it comes to minimising pores long-term – SPF is the real MVP. Sun protection is an integral step because extreme exposure to the sun can cause your pores to appear larger. When going out, never forget to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
2. Opt For Spot Treatment
Pores appear larger on oily skin as compared to dry skin. However, even if you have dry skin, some areas on your face can be oily regions such as your nose, cheeks, or forehead. These areas may show more visible pores. To shrink them you can opt for spot treatment with a clay mask, which can pull oil out of congested pores. Apply a thin layer, leave it on for some minutes, and rinse it off with water.
3. Deep Cleanse
Improving your skin and keeping your pores tiny is only possible if you remove dirt, oil and other impurities from it religiously. The best way to get rid of all the pollutants is to start deep cleansing daily. All you need to do is cleanse your skin with an oil cleanser, and cleanse it one more time using a foam, cream or gel cleanser (pick ones suitable for your skin).
4. Exfoliate!
Trying to get rid of dead skin cells and impurities? This is integral to minimising pores. Go for chemical exfoliators such as AHAs and BHAs (salicylic acid), it’s acid-based formula seeps into your pores, unclogs them and removes all the dead skin cells.
5. Trust The Retinoid
Retinol – essentially Vitamin A – is an amazing topical agent for shrinking pores. When applied to the skin, the vitamin converts into retinoic acid, which boosts cell turnover and makes the deep layers of your skin thicker. Along with reducing wrinkles by increasing collagen production, it also minimises oil production by tightening the pores. Remember to limit usage to only twice or thrice a week.
6. Get Monthly Facials
Along with taking all the above-mentioned measures to get rid of large pores, make sure to also get a professional treatment done frequently for better results. Pamper yourself with a professional facial every four to six weeks to keep your skin clear, healthy and prevent the occurrence of large pores.
7. Pick Products Smartly
Choosing one wrong product can ruin your entire meticulously charted out skincare routine! When buying food for your skin don’t just swoon over the brand’s name, but look out for ones with the ingredients most suitable for you. Various ingredients benefit your skin in different ways, for instance, zinc and magnesium clear pores by restoring the skins oil balance. In other cases, lavender and rosemary prevent pores from stretching out.
